“The U.S. is the great enemy of mankind! Against those hyenas there is no option but extermination. We will bring the war to the imperialist enemies’ very home, to his places of work and recreation. The imperialist enemy must feel like a hunted animal wherever he moves. Thus we’ll destroy him! We must keep our hatred against them [the U.S.] alive and fan it to paroxysms!” – Ernesto “Che” Guevara, 1961.
In November of 1962 the FBI discovered a plot by Cuban agents that planned to bomb Macy’s, Gimbel’s, Bloomingdale’s, along with Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal with 500 kilo’s of TNT and incendiary devices on the day after Thanksgiving. Hundreds if not thousands of innocent people may have died on that busiest shopping day of the year had this plot not been discovered. At the time Che Guevara was the head of Cuba’s “Foreign Liberation Department”.
About those missiles that Russia had put on Cuban soil before caving in to pressure and withdrawing them Guevara said, “If the missiles had remained, we would have used them against the very heart of the U.S., including New York City. The victory of Socialism is well worth millions of atomic victims.”
There is a monument to Che Guevara in New York’s Central Park at the Doris C. Freedman Plaza. It will be there from Nov. 20th 2008 until May of next year.
Strange world we now live in. Strange, strange world.
